O you who have believed, do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated
until you know what you are saying or in a state of janabah, except those
passing through [a place of prayer], until you have washed [your whole
body]. And if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the
place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and find no water,
then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and your hands [with it].
Indeed, Allah is ever Pardoning and Forgiving.
Among the Jews are those who distort words from their [proper] usages and
say, "We hear and disobey" and "Hear but be not heard" and "Ra'ina,"
twisting their tongues and defaming the religion. And if they had said
[instead], "We hear and obey" and "Wait for us [to understand]," it would
have been better for them and more suitable. But Allah has cursed them for
their disbelief, so they believe not, except for a few.
O you who were given the Scripture, believe in what We have sent down [to
Muhammad], confirming that which is with you, before We obliterate faces
and turn them toward their backs or curse them as We cursed the
sabbath-breakers. And ever is the decree of Allah accomplished.
Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what
is less than that for whom He wills. And he who associates others with
Allah has certainly fabricated a tremendous sin.
Have you not seen those who claim themselves to be pure? Rather, Allah
purifies whom He wills, and injustice is not done to them, [even] as much
as a thread [inside a date seed].
